Although scoreless the first half produced decent scoring opportunities for Ards' Darren Stirling and Craig McMillen while Dergview, struggling at the wrong end of the table, came closest when Gareth Sproule fired a 20-yard free-kick onto the right post.

But it was Ards who finally made the breakthrough when, on 60 minutes, McMillen got his head to a Kris Pike free-kick which he directed past 'keeper James O'Reilly.

And Dergview's cause was weakened further later in the game when Johnny Lafferty was dismissed by referee Paddy McFadden for picking up a second yellow card.

However the insurance goal Ards needed didn't arrive until stoppage time when Darren Fitzgerald made the game safe with a simple tap-in.
