Glenavon 5-1 HW Welders
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Saturday, 16th January, 2010
GLENAVON eventually powered their way through to the sixth round although their Championship 2 opponents ensured it wasn't all plain sailing.

The Lurgan Blues needed just six minutes to open the scoring when Stuart King got on the end of the ball some 25 yards out to fire a left foot effort past 'keeper Alex Spackman.

The Welders levelled three minutes from the break, however, when a mix-up in the Glenavon defence between Mark Haughey and Andrew Plummer allowed Andrew Dickson to nip in and lob the ball into the net.

But Glenavon regained the advantage six minutes into the second half when Trevor Molloy nodded home a Tony Grant cross.

Grant then got in on the act himself a minute short of the hour when he brought the ball forward after collecting it from Paul Carvill before finishing with a low drive past Spackman.

Conor Walsh made it 4-1 with a 25-yard drive which Spackman let slip in off the post on 66 minutes before Grant doubled his tally two minutes after that from the spot following a Mark Magennis handball.
