Glebe Rangers 1-2 Limavady United
IFA Championship - Saturday, 20th December, 2008
By Clive Edgar

LIMAVADY United made it seven games unbeaten in all competitions with this victory at the Riada Stadium.

They did however have to scrap and battle to claim all three points against an enthusiastic Glebe Rangers.

In the constant drizzle it was teenager Lee Harkin who provided the bright spots for the visitors as he grabbed a goal in each half. Ian Bellingham grabbed the home side's goal.

Rangers had the first chance of the game in the third minute. Jason McClay somehow headed the ball into the ground and over the bar from just six yards.

United struck back immediately with Paul Owens warming the hands Sammy Foster in the home goal with a long range effort.

Midway through the first half the Roesiders almost took the lead. Gareth Tommins initial shot was well saved by Foster and unfortunately for the striker his follow-up struck the post from a tight angle.

The home side had a chance to get back into the game shortly after when they were awarded a penalty. Aaron Canning was guilty of the foul but Trevor Parkhill fired the spot-kick well wide of the target.

In the 24th minute Owens again tried his luck from long range but once again Foster was a match for it and tipped the ball wide.

Only a minute later Foster was at fault as the Roesiders took the lead. He let Harkin's cross come shot squirm past him at the near post.

The visitors should have doubled their lead in the 32nd minute. Tommins sliced open the home defence with a wonderful through ball but Owens shot weakly at Foster.

In the 57th minute Martin Cutmore burst from defence and tested Foster with a long range drive which the 'keeper did well to tip wide of the goal.

Two minutes later the home side were level. Parkhill's floated a free-kick into the box, United 'keeper Chris McKendry came for the ball and didn't get anywhere near it, allowing Bellingham the simple task of heading into an unguarded net.

Midway through the second half McKendry flapped at another cross but this time Parkhill shot well wide of the target.

The winning goal came in the 70th minute. Ryan McIlmoyle picked out Harkin at the back post and the youngster headed home.

United had two good chances in stoppage time to move further ahead but both Gary Crossan and McIlmoyle failed to take advantage from good positions.
